One of these days, I guess I have to start really working on my next project. It’s the big invitational exhibit at the Green Hill Gallery next July. While I have decided on the concept, I’ve changed my mind on such things as print size and some other project deliverables (sorry about the consultant-speak, but delivering the goods is exactly what you are required to do as a photographer) but for some reason, I’m just not ready to start the ball rolling on the project just yet. Procrastination is a bad thing and I don’t want to get myself behind the eight ball and be forced to rush through the production of the work. Budget is going to be a big thing for this project and cash flow is going to be a big part of the overall project plan. Thus, I am reluctant to start when I have yet to come to a conclusion on some of the fundamentals of the project.
The first thing that I have to do (well, besides making up a project plan and figuring out just what needs to be done) is select the images for the show. I have begun that process. One of the things I have noticed is that I thought I had a whole bunch of photographs to select from. I do, actually have a lot of images but getting them all to play nice with one another is going to be an interesting problem to solve. I see this as the biggest problem to solve – and isn’t that the primary thing about an exhibit – deciding what to show. ( A wise man once said, "Content is King.")
Once I figure out what the show is going to be about then everything will fall together nicely. Until I can get that rock over the top and let it roll downhill, it’s going to be a struggle.
