I’m a day away from being “Out West” to begin the annual photo safari. American photographers assume that landscape photography is photography of the American West. While the American West is truly spectacular not all of us have the Desert Southwest or Point Lobos in our backyard. Nor, can a sizeable portion of American landscape photographers get to the American West. As the title says, the Landscape is where you find it and there is where you photograph the landscape. Moving from the Pacific Northwest to North Carolina about thirty years ago gave me the insight to redefine my approach to making landscape photography local. It took a while, but the landscape I found was much different and I had to change my way of seeing to photograph in my new home. Here’s the first major project I did in photographing my local landscape. link
