The antennae pointed towards the sky. There was little hope the distress signals would be picked up and more importantly responded to in time. In a desperate attempt to hasten their rescue, they grouped the antennae together and hoped the combined power would be able to penetrate the heavy atmosphere and summon their rescuers from the Mother Ship.
