If you know what you are looking for, if you have decided on your subject and what it is supposed to mean, then you should not be surprised when you find what you are looking for. Some photographers will do a lot of research on potential areas and then go out and find those images. Sometimes they are referred to as “trophy hunters.” It goes like, “we need to make a photograph of Yosemite from the Wawona Tunnel Parking lot, Half Dome at sunset and maybe a Moonrise near Hernandez, New Mexico.” Let's go do it.
This is perfectly acceptable if you are out on assignment, or if you must make an image to fill in the hole of a specific project. Of course, this also means you might miss out on many other interesting things you could encounter along the way. There is a distinct difference between being focused on creating images and being afflicted with the tunnel vision of bringing back a specific image.
Leave yourself some time and some room to fall into something wonderful.
